Film Synopsis

Icons Among Us: Jazz In The Present Tense - Jazz is a living thing, a conversation between musicians and each other as well as musicians and the audience. By combining rare archival stills, interviews with 75 jazz artists and live recordings culled from 25 hours of concerts, Icons Among Us is a dynamic and engaging document of many of the greatest jazz musicians of today. Subtitled Jazz in the Present Tense, it contains interviews and performances from the likes of Herbie Hancock, Terence Blanchard, Ravi Coltrane, Medeski Martin & Wood, the Bad Plus, and many others. Capturing the spontaneity of performers who have an intimate knowledge of their instruments and a full knowledge of jazz history, the movie-created from four episodes of a cable and satellite TV series-shows how something like the same simple riff can become something completely different in the hands of different musicians. The dialog between older and younger generations of music takes place with words, of course, but also with music. Anyone from diehard fans to interested novices and those interested in the origins of creativity will find something to take home with them. Like the music itself, Icons Among Us is fresh and constantly surprising, with a spirit and energy that innovates even as it recycles.

Please Call Home - From 1970 to 1973 the Allman Brothers Band called the Tudor-style mansion on Vineville Avenue in Macon, GA, their home. “The Big House,” as it came to be known, quickly became the communal hub for the band, their family and friends, and that magical era is brought back to life in the long-awaited DVD release of Please Call Home: The Big House Years. This wonderful film, shot in stunning Hi-Def, captures all the joy and sorrow, triumphs and tragedies that the Allman Brothers Band experienced under the roof of the Big House.

Captured - Since 1979 Clayton Patterson has dedicated his life to documenting the final era of raw creativity and lawlessness in New York City's Lower East Side, a neighborhood famed for art, music and revolutionary minds. Traversing the outside edge he's recorded a dark and colorful society, from drag to hardcore, heroin, homelessness, political chaos and ultimately gentrification. His odyssey from voyeur to provocateur reveals that it can take losing everything you love to find your own significance.
