Comedy Club Event to Help Out Habitat
Blue Ridge Now| December 6th, 2009
ASHEVILLE -- The first Christmas Comedy Jam will hit the stage Thursday night at the Funny Business Comedy Club on the lower level of the historic S&W Cafeteria Building in downtown Asheville.
Presented by Warren Haynes, The Christmas Comedy Jam is a one- night-event of music and comedy with proceeds going to Habitat for Humanity. It starts at 8 p.m.
Asheville's Vertigo Jazz Project will start the evening off. The night's headline performer is Pat Godwin, the nationally touring and renowned guitar comedy virtuoso. Godwin has been writing songs, performing in clubs and releasing CDs since he was 20.
But it was only when Godwin's style took a turn, and he began adding more humor to his live act, that people started taking notice. His banter with the audience turned funny and his songs grew even funnier. With good feedback, Godwin plunged headfirst into comedy and discovered his true calling.
Aside from his stand-up career, Godwin has blossomed into a clever and prolific comedy songwriter. He first broke onto the scene with his holiday classic "Let's Put Christ Back in Christmas" from the album Reindeer Games, which received airplay all over the country.
After that, it wasn't long before Godwin's talents surfaced on radio morning shows. He's appeared on every top morning show you can think of, worked for six years on Philadelphia's "Morning Zoo," and was a frequent guest and contributor to "The Howard Stern Show."
Additional performers include Counting Crows, Ani DiFranco, Gov't Mule, moe, Stax Legend William Bell and many others.
Ticket price is $20 and limited tickets are available through Ticketmaster and the Asheville Civic Center box office. All proceeds go to Habitat for Humanity.
